How Our Jackson Hole Fishing Trips Work

CHOOSE YOUR BOAT
Each boat size offers a unique experience. Our traditional boats are great for small groups or those looking to fish the entire length of the trip, while the group and family big boats cater to families and larger groups looking to spend quality time together while taking turns catching fish.

WE’ll FIND THE BEST ROUTE
Depending on the time of year and river conditions, we will pick the best option for catching fish. Each year the river goes through a cycle of high water from snowmelt in the spring to low water in the fall. We evaluate conditions each day to choose the best spots – let us do the work for you!

ENJOY WORLD-CLASS FISHING
Now it’s time to get on the water and hook a big one! Enjoy the beautiful scenery no matter the boat size or location. With pristine waters, iconic views, and a professional guide, your next fishing adventure will be a memorable one.

RIVER OPTIONS

Jackson Hole is home to some of the most famous fisheries in the world! Below are a few of our recommended rivers.

Snake River

The Snake River truly offers a fishing experience like no other. One of the most scenic rivers in Jackson Hole, the Snake boasts a healthy population of the Snake River Fine Spotted Cutthroat Trout. This unique fishery is completely surrounded by mountains including the Teton, Gros Ventre, and Snake River Mountain Ranges. This mountainous habitat draws in a wide range of wildlife from Bald Eagles to Grizzly Bears. The Snake River is conveniently located 10 minutes from Jackson Hole, making it the perfect destination for beginners and experts alike. Our Traditional Boats, Group and Family Big Boats, and Walk Wade trips are all offered on the Snake River.

Salt River

Created by natural springs flowing directly out of the Earth, the Salt River slowly meanders its way through the valley. Surrounded by grassy banks, this small river creates the perfect habitat for large Cutthroat and Brown trout. A short but beautiful 45-minute drive through the Snake River Canyon brings you to the Salt River, where miles of fishing access allows anglers to spread out and enjoy a peaceful day on the water. The upper reaches of the Salt River are ideal for our Traditional Drift boats, whereas the lower sections provide plenty of room for our Group and Family Big Boats.

Green River

A scenic drive east of Jackson Hole brings you to the Green River, flowing along the snow-capped Wind River Mountain Range. Known for its remoteness, the Green River is home to some of the largest Brown and Rainbow Trout in Wyoming. This fishery mimics that of a small stream with all the benefits of a larger body of water. Most of the Green River flows through private land so many trips go without seeing other people the entire day. Because of its intimate size, the Green River is perfect for our Traditional Drift boats. We recommend a full-day trip for this fishery as the drive time is approximately one hour from Jackson Hole.

No experience necessary! Our guides are happy to work with and teach all individuals, whether they are beginners, intermediate, or advanced anglers.

We love both spin fishing and fly fishing! For spin fishing, we always cut two hooks off and pinch the barb down to ensure we do not hurt the fish. Spin fishing works especially well in our family boats, but we can always do one or the other, or both. When your guide reaches out the day before the trip let them know of any preferences you have. Spin fishing is productive on most rivers we guide but there are certain conditions where fly fishing is preferred.

If your trip is booked in the months of May or June, please wait to purchase a fishing license until we confirm which body of water is fishing best. If your trip is in the months of July, August, September, or October you can purchase your license here: https://wgfd.wyo.gov/apply-or-buy
Children 14 and under do not need a license when accompanied by a licensed adult.

Sunglasses are a must for everyone on a fishing trip! This is to protect your eyes from any hooks. Other recommend items include:

  • Appropriate clothing for the forecasted weather. Morning and evening are generally cooler, while midday heats up quickly.
  • Bring extra jackets that you can shed as the day goes on. Light and airy clothing are great for the summer months. In the spring and fall non-cotton clothing like fleece or wool is best.
  • Sunscreen, hats, and comfortable shoes.
  • Lunch if you would like.
  • Cameras and phones are ok to bring but are always brought at the discretion of the guest.

We provide a cooler full of water and snacks on all trips. Snacks generally consist of beef jerky, chips, and crackers/cookies for kids. Guests can provide their own lunch on half and full-day trips.

At the time of booking, we will decide on the best meeting location. Your guide will text you the day before the trip to confirm the time and location. If you do not have a rental car, we can pick you up. For guests with a rental car, we appreciate meeting at designated locations as some hotels and neighborhoods are tight for the guide to drive their boat through.

Which body of water we fish depends on the time of year and conditions. Here is a breakdown of generally where we fished based on the date: These dates can vary from year to year.

  • Snake River: June 25th – October 31st
  • Lewis Lake: May 27th – July 1st
  • Green River: May 1 – July 31st
  • Salt River: June 25th – September 30th

Half day trips can vary in length from 4 hours to 7 hours in total, depending on the location. The Snake River is 10 minutes from Jackson, which makes trips on the Snake generally last around 5 hours in total (driving to the river, restrooms, etc) with 4 hours on the water. The Green River and Lewis Lake are both 1 hour and 20 minutes from Jackson. The Salt River is about 45 minutes.

Full- day trips can vary in length from 6 hours to 9 hours in total, depending on the location. The Snake River is 10 minutes from Jackson, which makes trips on the Snake generally last around 5 hours in total (driving to the river, restrooms, etc) with 4 hours on the water. Fishing can sometimes be better in the rain! With that said, trips go out rain or shine. If there is weather in the forecast, we can provide waders, boots, Helly Hansen rain pants, and Helly Hansen raincoats.

Our age minimum is 4 years old.
There are restrooms located at the start and end of each float trip.

Because river boats are much smaller compared to ocean boats, we do have a weight limit. Our small boats have a guest’s weight limit of 500 pounds (distributed relatively evenly between 2 people). Our group and family big boats have a guest weight limit of 750 pounds.
