2024 Season Recap: Another Great Year on the Water

The 2024 season was surely one for the books! From pre-runoff cutthroat trout to late fall brown trout, we had a great season on the water. That being said we could not do it without our amazing customers and dedicated staff members. In today’s blog we are going to share some of our favorite locations and moments from the 2024 Jackson Hole fly fishing season.

Pre-runoff on the Snake River

March and April are some of the best months to fish the Snake River. After a long cold winter, the cutthroat trout are starting to move again and they are hungry as ever! Because the river banks and boat ramps are still stacked in several feet of snow, floating this time of year does take a little more effort. However, the reward of large fish and little to no crowds is certainly worth the effort! This time of year, midge and skwalas work best.

Green River and Lewis Lake

May and June bring us to the Green River and Lewis Lake for the chance at large Brown and Rainbow Trout, and Lake Trout respectively. Pictured below are some memorial fish from a guide training mission on the Green and a little angled getting a tight line on the Firehole River in Yellowstone. While the water is a little murky this time of year, something bright and flashy usually does the trick!

High Summer: Snake River, Gros Ventre River, and Flat Creek

Long hot days and cool nights only mean one thing: summertime in Jackson Hole. From July through October we primarily float on the Snake River or walk wade the Gros Ventre River and Flat Creek. Hopper season on the Snake is a true favorite, and a productive one at that! Here are some great pictures of successful trips on the Snake, Gros Ventre and Flat Creek. There is no better way to beat the heat of summer than cooling off by the river and getting a tight line.

Fall Slow Down: Salt River

As the leaves change and the water gets cooler in September and October, we enjoy the slow down of the busy summer season. Many families have sent their kids back to school and the town of Jackson begins to prepare for the winter season ahead. This is one of our favorite times to be on the water and get one more chance at a big one. While the Snake is still fishing well, a quick trip down to the Salt River is a great change of scenery. This fishery boasts it all! Think dry flies during the hatch and stripping streamers throughout the day.

We only really scratched the surface on the great Jackson Hole fly fishing season we had! As winter settles in and the snow begins to fall, we’ll look back with gratitude on the unforgettable days, tight lines, and shared memories. Here’s to counting down the days until we’re back out there next season! Whether you’re looking to book a classic traditional float trip down the Snake River or a walk and wade adventure on scenic creeks, we can’t wait for 2025!
